Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 7.7 cm. Slender and cylindrical body, large eyes, dorsal fin split in two. Coloration orange to beige-brown with oblique blue-green bands on flanks. First dorsal fin blue-green, bluish spot on cheeks.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in North America, from south-east Canada to most of eastern and central USA, south to Mississippi, Louisiana and West Virginia. Lives in fast flowing areas of rivers, amongst rubble and gravel.

Status : This species has a large range and occurs as many stable populations. It is thought to be locally abundant and not threatened at the moment.
