Identification
One of the larger species of its genus, growing to 43 cm for a weight of 850 g. Straight head profile, elongated snout. Coloration silvery grey with alternating dotted and full black longitudinal lines. Black dots on lower flanks, fins and cheeks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in Western Atlantic Ocean from Florida, Bahamas and Bermuda to Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean islands. Lives in clear water areas near coral reefs and hard-bottoms, to 40 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range but is globally uncommon. It isn’t usually targeted by fisheries and remains safe so far.
