Identification
The species grows to 23 cm in length. Forehead gently sloping, small mouth. Coloration dark silvery grey with mostly yellow fins. Fairly broad bronze-yellow longitudinal bands going from head (including one through eye) to tail peduncle.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in Western Atlantic Ocean from Florida, Bahamas and Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico to Brazil. Lives in rocky areas and coral reefs, down to 25 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range and is locally abundant. Adults are not targeted for food but juveniles occur in areas vulnerable to habitat degradation.
