Identification
The species can reach 65 cm in length. Coloration mostly bright red, often with more-or-less distinct pale pink saddle markings on back. Whole body covered with light blue to pink dots. Caudal fin dusky with narrow white margin.
Range and habitat
This species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from East Africa to Samoa and Cook islands, north to Ryukyu islands, south to Australia. Lives in seaward reefs, inshore algae and soft coral reefs, to 200 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range and is targeted by small-scale fisheries which isn’t considered a threat at this time.
