Identification
Small bass species, reaching up to 8 cm in length. Large clear eyes. Unmistakable. Back is bright red, flanks are reddish-pink. Back and flanks have broad shiny turquoise (sometimes broken) vertical bands. Clear pink belly.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Bermuda and South Florida to Gulf of Mexico, south to Honduras and most Caribbean reef areas. Lives in rubble, stilty or sandy bottoms areas of coral reefs, from 12 to 400 m.

Status : The species has a large range and is locally very common to even abundant where suitable habitat occur. Not known to face any threats.
