Identification
Large anthias species, reaching up to 20 cm in length. Males have pointed upper lip and longer tail. Coloration uniformly bright violet-pink with lighter-colored throat. Elongated tail with dark pink tail-fin tips. Female has rounder snout.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from Bali and south Japan (Ryukyu islands) to north Australia and New Caledonia. Lives in coral reefs around oceanic islands, from 5 to 60 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a large range and isn’t currently threatened. It is rarely collected for the aquarium trade but coral reef destruction can be a problem.
