Identification
The species grows to 6 cm in length. Elongated body. Very bright coloration with alternating orange and pink bands, edged with violet and covering whole body. Bright blue-edged black round spots on dorsal and tail fins.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Florida and Bahamas to Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean islands (absent from Venezuela). Lives in deep reefs, on coral, sand and rubble bottoms, from 10 to 70 meters deep.

Status : The species has a wide range and occurs in deep waters where it can be locally common. Eaten by invasive lionfish, occasionally collected for trade.
