Identification
Adults can grow to 70 cm in length. Unmistakable body shape with very small head, large hump above forehead and high back with long dorsal fins. Coloration greenish white with indistinct dark blotches on flanks, scattered black dots.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Andaman Islands to south Japan, north Australia and east to Palau. Single report from Kenya. Lives in lagoons, seaward reefs in tide pools and silty areas, to 40 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range but is caught in big numbers for food and for the aquarium trade. Many populations are likely to be declining.
