Identification
This species grows to 20 cm in length. Coloration creamy-white to grey-white with olive tinge on head and back. Dark-edged orange band from mouth to tail. Rows of orange spots on upper flanks and back. Light blue dashes on cheeks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and east Africa to Samoa and Marshall Islands, north to south Japan, south to New Caledonia. Lives in sandy areas in clear lagoons and seaward reefs, from to 2 to 30 m deep.

Status : The species has a huge range. It is regularly collected for the trade but the impact of this practice remains unknown.
