Notes : No subspecies known. This species has recently been split from N. helfrichi.

Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 6 cm. Body is dark pink becoming yellowish towards tail fin and peduncle. Head bright yellow, big yellow eyes and bright pink cap on top of head. First ray of dorsal fin is elongated and blue.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in north and western Pacific Ocean, from Japan to Marshall Islands, including Fiji, Guam and Micronesia. Lives in seaward channels over patches of sand and rubble, near coral reefs, from 25 to 90 m.

Status : The species is very poorly known in the wild but seems to be at least locally common. It currently faces no known threats.
