Identification
Maximum length is 12 cm. Easily recognized by the first part of its dorsal fin which is fan-like and features white spots and a white-edged black spot. Whitish body with seven vertical bright orange bars.
Range and habitat
Western Pacific Ocean, from Moluccas to Solomon Islands, Great Barrier Reef and Palau (Micronesia), north to Ryukyu Islands. Lives in sandy patches around coral reefs, near caves, from 25 to 50 m.

Status : The species is still fairly common in the wild but has a relatively small range. Collection for aquarium trade may become a threat in the future.
