Identification
Adults grow to 19 cm in length. Thick upper lip, fairly long barbels. Upper half of body with two purple-red longitudinal bands separated by pink-white lines. Light pink fins and mouth. Belly with blue dashes on scales forming broken lines.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the northwestern Pacific Ocean, from Japan to Taiwan and Chinese coasts to Hong Kong. Lives in shallow sandy areas near reefs, usually above 10 meters deep.

Status : The species’ status has yet to be assessed. It seems to be fairly common in its range but could be threatened by habitat loss and pollution.
