Identification
The species can reach 100 cm for a weight of 6,3 kg. Juveniles yellow with broad black bands. Adults silvery blue-grey, white belly. Orange spots on head, upper back, browner on black-edged fins. Belly scalation forming oblique lines.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and East Africa to south Japan and New Caledonia. Lives in shallow coastal areas and coral reefs, estuaries, open areas, to 170 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species status has yet to be assessed but it has a fairly large range. Locally caught by fisheries and for the aquarium trade. Listed as regionally Near Threatened in the Persian Gulf.
