Identification
Adults can reach a body length of 7 cm. Rectangular and laterally compressed body shape. Coloration is grey-brown with a black supra-opercular spot and small blue spots on lower cheeks. Dark edges on some flank scales. Clear tail.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Indian Ocean, in the south of Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Gulf of Oman and possibly extending to South Africa. Lives in inshore coral reefs, from 3 to 30 meters deep.

Status : The species is poorly known. It is listed as endangered in the Persian Gulf, counting for most of the species’ known range. Unlisted on global scale.
