Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Adults will grow to 10 cm. Flanks with dark vertical band on each flank scales giving scaly aspect. Juveniles are yellowish with visible clear blue dots on whole flanks and black spot on dorsal fins. Adults darker with less visible dots.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and east Africa to Marshall and Society Islands, north to south Japan, south to Australia. Lives in coral and rubble areas of lagoons and seaward reefs, to 40 meters deep.

Status : The species is widespread and seems to be facing no threats at present time.
