Identification
Adults can grow to about 11 cm in length. Bright orange body with three large vertical white bands with thin black edge. Some specimens have less bands. Caudal fin, pectoral fins and back tip of dorsal fin are edged with black.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the eastern Indian Ocean, from Andaman islands to Singapore, Indonesia and North Australia, north to Taiwan and Ryukyu islands. Lives in coral reefs in shallow and calm lagoons, down to 15 m deep.

Status : The species has a large range and is still globally common despite big numbers caught for trade. Farm breeding has slowed down capture rate.
