Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 24 cm. One of the biggest species of its genus with a high profile and steep forehead. Coloration white with 6 broad vertical grey bands. Dark grey head. Conspicuous black spot on caudal peduncle.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and East Africa to Hawaii, north to South Japan, south to Australia. Lives in rocky lagoons, reef flats and tide pools, down to 3 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range and remains locally common. Habitat degradation and pollution are not yet considered as threats.
