Identification
Adults can reach 15 cm in length. Deep body, laterally compressed. Yellow eyes. Coloration dark brown with dark bluish-black forehead, back and fins. Dark blue pectoral fins. Light blue markings on belly and pectoral fin axil.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean, around Madeira, Canary Islands, Azores and Cape Verde. Lives in rocky reefs near sandy areas, tide pools, down to 25 m.

Status : The species is relatively common within its range. It lives in protected areas and is rarely caught for the aquarium trade.
