Identification
The species grows to 25 cm in length. Very convex and humped forehead, round head profile, high body profile. Face and nape bluish-grey with orange eyes. Body dull orange-beige with large black blotch on lower half of flanks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, in the Amazon river basin, from Japura to Tapajos river and in the middle and lower Rio Negro basin. Lives in clear streams with slightly acidic waters (pH of 6,8).

Status : This species has a large range. Habitat loss and collection for trade need to be monitored.
