Identification
Adults can reach up to 7.7 cm in length. Slightly concave forehead, well visible in males. Lower half of body is dark purple-black, upper part bright red. Blue lips. Flanks have vertical black and clear bands. Yellow spots on anal fins.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in eastern Africa and is endemic to Lake Victoria, in Tanzania. Found near rocky shores and rocky islands, down to 4 meters.

Status : The species remains locally common but is threatened by hybridization with other species and capture to be used as bait.
