Identification
The species can grow to 15 cm in length. Laterally compressed body with high. Vertical black bar running through eye, cheeks iridescent blue. Flanks mostly orange with black and white mark, iridescent green vertical lines. Bluish fins.

Range and habitat
This species lives in South America and occurs in the Amazon river basin in Peru, Bolivia and Brazil. Also found in Essequibo river in Guyana. Lives in slow moving rivers, usually in open areas with soft substrate.

Status : The species has a large range and seems to be quite common. It could suffer, on the long term, from water pollution and other human-related threats.
