Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 20 cm. Fairly long fins. Coloration brownish-green with bright turquoise lines on cheeks and spots on flanks. Dorsal and caudal fins show bright orange edges. Large black spot on upper flanks.
Range and habitat
This species occurs in South America, west to the Andes, from Esmeraldas River (Ecuador) to Tumbes river (Peru). Found mostly in coastal streams.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species’ status hasn’t been assessed but it seems to be at least locally common. Possibly impacted by capture of specimens for aquarium trade.
