Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Large mouth, body partly translucent. Coloration whitish-beige with three broad longitudinal black bands, two smaller bands. Tail peduncle yellow with black spot in line with lateral line.

Range and habitat
Indo-Pacific, from Maldives to Indonesia, Philippines, Micronesia and Tonga. Found in lagoon reefs amongst staghorn corals, to 40 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is linked with coral reefs and staghorn corals so it could be vulnerable to habitat loss and coral reef destruction. Conservation status not yet assessed. Caught for trade.
