Classification

Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
The species will reach up to 18 cm long. Small elongated mouth, triangular dorsal and anal fins. Coloration mostly white with dull-brown edged yellow-brown slightly oblique bars. Black spot on dorsal fin and tail peduncle.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Ogasawara Islands (Japan) to Malaysia and south to Australia. Lives around coastal reefs, on flat sand bottoms, from 5 to 40 meters deep.

Status : The species has a fairly large range and tolerates a large variety of habitat. It isn’t believed to be threatened at this time.
