Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 21 cm. Very similar to H. acuminatus, same coloration but its snout is shorter and its anal fin is square instead of pointed. Black and white vertical and oblique bands on flanks, yellow fins.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area from Red Sea and South Africa to Hawaii, south to Australia, north to South Japan. Lives in outer reef slopes and current channels, from 5 to 210 meters.

Status : The species has a huge range and is known to be locally very common. It occurs in protected areas and doesn’t face any threats.
