Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 25 cm. Laterally compressed body, elongated snout, large curved dorsal fin. Ground coloration white with two large vertical black bands on flanks. Black snout and eye. Yellow dorsal and caudal fins.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area from East Africa and Persian Gulf to Society Islands, south to Lord Howe Island, north to South Japan. Lives in protected lagoons, deep outer reef slopes, from 2 to 175 meters.

Status : The species has a huge range and is known to be locally very common. It occurs in protected areas and doesn’t face any threats.
