Identification
The species grows to 16 cm long. Yellow head, with dirty orange vertical band, edged with black and blue. Yellow fins with conspicuous blue line. Lower back yellow with black dots, upper flanks black with two large white blotches.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Pacific Ocean, from Ryukyu islands, Taiwan and Samoa to Hawaii, Marquesas and Pitcairn islands. Lives exclusively on exposed seaward coral reefs, from 2 to 43 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range but is localized and can suffer from habitat loss because of its dependence on corals. Its populations should be monitored
