Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Adults can reach 15 cm in length. Body slightly elongated. Bright yellow flanks with thin dark parallel lines and a large clear blue blotch on upper half of flanks. Black head band and tail peduncle spot edged with light blue.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Pacific ocean, from Andaman islands to Fiji and Tonga, north to south Japan, south to north Australia. Lives in coral reefs, from shallow lagoons to outer reef slopes, to 14 m.

Status : The species has a large range. It is totally dependent on corals for its survival and habitat loss could become a major threat.
