Notes : No subspecies known.
Identification
The species grows to 20 cm in length. Entire body bright lemon-yellow with small almost straight black band from forehead to eye and cheek. Black band from dorsal fin edge to tail peduncle and anal fin. Black round blotch on upper flanks.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indian Ocean, from east Africa (and South Africa) to Sumatra and southwest Thailand coasts. Lives in coral reefs, from reef flats to deep slopes, from 10 to 40 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range. It seems to remain safe at this time although it can be sensitive to loss of habitat.
