Identification
Adults can grow to 12 cm in length. Very short snout. Coloration bluish-white with alternating vertical rows of black dots (some small, some bigger). Thin vertical black bar on face. Orange-yellow edge on dorsal fin. Black and white tail.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indian Ocean, from Red Sea and South Africa to Christmas Island, Bali and Thailand coasts. Lives in coral reef areas of lagoons and seaward reef slopes, to 45 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range and seems to remain globally common. It is dependent on corals but can still live in coral-depleted areas.
