Identification
Adults can reach 18 cm. Snout short. Flanks grey white with bluish tinge on snout and belly. Upper and back half of flanks bright yellow or with yellow tinge. Alternating row of thick and thin dark dots. Dorsal and anal fins edged white.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from south Japan to Taiwan and from Papua New Guinea to Tonga and Lord Howe Island. Lives in outer slopes of coral reefs, rocky reefs, from 5 to 50 meters deep.

Status : The species has a fairly large range and is at least locally abundant. It suffers from no threats at this time.
