Identification
The species grows to a maximum length of 17 cm. Dusky white body, darker on upper back, broad black area on back half of flanks, yellow anal and tail fins. Yellow edge on whole dorsal fin, on black facial band, gill coverts and snout.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Indian Ocean, from the Gulf of Aden to Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, east to Sri Lanka. Lives in deep rocky and coral reef areas, from 2 to 65 meters deep.

Status : The species has a fairly large range and is at least locally abundant. It suffers from no threats at this time.
