Identification
Adults can grow to 20 cm in length. Unmistakable. High profile body with bright yellow to yellow-orange tail, anal and dorsal fins. Body coloration mostly black to brown-black with grey forehead with black hump, yellow snout and white lips.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the southern Pacific Ocean, from east Australian coasts and Lord Howe Islands to Easter Island and Pitcairn islands. Lives in inner and outer coral reefs, estuaries, algae growth areas, to 20 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is widespread within its large range. It occurs in protected areas and doesn’t seem to suffer from any threats.
