Identification
The species grows to 18 cm in length. Easily recognized. Black face with two vertical white lines on snout and cheeks. Body dark olive-brown with olive-beige dots on each flank scales. Dorsal fin clearer, with red edge. Red tail fin.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from the Persian Gulf and Maldives to Philippines, north to south Japan, south to Indonesia. Lives in coral reefs around rocky shorelines, outer reefs, down to 20 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN

Status : The species has a huge range and seems to remain common. It is dependent on coral reefs and this could be a possible future threat.
