Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Adults can reach 13 cm in length. Body coloration dull to bright yellow with black vertical face band, edged light blue. Flanks covered with blue dots forming diagonal and horizontal bands. Yellow spotted tail fin, broad black edge on anal fin.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from east Africa to Marquesas Islands and Hawaii, north to south Japan, south to Lord Howe Island. Lives in reef flats, lagoons and outer reefs, to 36 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has declined in areas where coral depletion has been noted. However, it still remains common in parts of its range. Monitoring needed.
