Identification
The species grows to 60 cm for a weight of 1,8 kg. Global coloration grey with dark grey-brown flank scales centers. White mouth, white area on gill coverts and faint curved vertical white bar on flanks. Blue-edged dorsal and anal fins.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Florida and Bahamas through Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Islands to south Brazil. Lives in coral and rocky reefs, from 2 to 30 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a wide range and seems to remain common in most of it. It isn’t much targeted for the trade and remains rarely caught by fisheries.
