Identification
Adults can reach a length of 6 cm. Females are dull creamy-yellow with black blotches. Males have large red-spotted dorsal and anal fins. Coloration is grey with a green tinge and red edges on each flank scales.

Range and habitat
The species is found in North America, in eastern USA from St Johns and Ochloknee river drainages to Florida. Lives in well vegetated swamps, ponds and slow-moving streams.

Status : The species hasn’t been assessed by IUCN Red List but seems to be fairly common within its range.
