Identification
Adults can grow to 45 cm in length. Elongated body, short snout, upper lip with granulous aspect. Coloration mostly olive-brown to grey, small dark edges to scales. Tail fin dark, other fins and cheeks bright pink-red with dark edges.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia, from south and east China, and Hainan island, to north-east Vietnam. Lives in large and medium-sized rivers.

Status : The species has a large range and is threatened by pollution and overhunting. Declines are noted locally.
