Identification
The species grows to around 25 cm in length. Laterally compressed and very high body profile with large scales on flanks. Small head, small mouth. Silvery coloration. Bright red pelvic and caudal fins with no black markings at all.
Range and habitat
The species is found in South East Asia, in the Mekong, Maeklong and Chao Phraya river basins and in south-east Thailand rivers as well. Lives in midwater areas of large rivers, streams and floodplains.

Status : The species remains locally common but is harvested in big numbers by fisheries and species are still caught for the international trade.
