Identification
The species can grow to about 12 cm in length. Coloration is dull orange-pink with a clearer belly. Pectoral, pelvic and anal fins bright red. Dorsal and tail fin dirty red. Oval-shaped dark blotches on flanks with broken line on mid-flanks.
Range and habitat
The species is found in South East Asia and is endemic to the state of Johor in south Peninsular Malaysia, only occurring in three river basins. Extinct in Singapore. Lives in freshwater swamps and forest streams with slightly acidic waters.

Status : The species has a small range and is only recorded from five locations, all of which are threatened by conversion for agriculture or urbanism.
