Identification
The species can reach about 20 cm in length. Body flattened and with longitudinal ridges. Edges of fins are ragged, small barbles on head, around mouth, small eyes. Coloration mostly beige to beige-brown, sometimes with faint dark spots.
Range and habitat
The species is found in South East Asia and occurs in parts of peninsular Malaysia, most of Sumatra and in Sarawak, Borneo. Lives in lowland black water swamps, streams and rivers in peat swamp forests.

Status : The species is still common to locally abundant in suitable habitat but its habitat is undergoing large scale destruction in most of its range.
