Identification
Adults can reach a body length of 12 cm. Elongated and narrow head, big hump on back. Bright red coloration, becoming reddish-brown in old adults with iridescent markings on some flank scales. Big eyes.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to New Guinea and only found around Lake Sentani, in Irian Jaya province of Indonesia. Lives in a lake located in hilly terrain, at altitude of 75 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is endemic to a single lake which is more and more polluted by human settlements nearby. Introduction of other predators is also a threat.
