Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 40 cm with a body diameter up to 1 cm. Very slender cylindrical body with thin and transparent dorsal fin. Coloration is cream-white with conspicuous fairly broad bright orange transversal bands.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific, from the Maldives to Fiji, north to south Japan, south to Australia. Lives in sand slopes and rubble areas exposed to currents, from 18 to 75 m deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is thought to be very common in the wild, in suitable habitats. Often collected for aquarium trade but this is not considered a threat.
