Identification
The species can grow to 23 cm in length. Large body, triangular head with blunt snout. Coloration usually dark brown to black with dull reddish-orange limbs, tail, dorsal crest, sides of head. Two rows of light brown-orange warts on back.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia as scattered populations in east India and Nepal, then in north and north-east Myanmar and nearby Yunnan province (China). Found in moist forests, near ponds and pools from 1000 to 3000 m.

Status : The species has a relatively large range and can tolerate slight disturbances in its habitat. It is overexploited in parts of Myanmar and declining.
