Identification
The species can grow to about 40 cm in length for a diameter up to 1.5 cm. Blunt head with small mouth, eyes hidden below skin. Body color is dark brown to grey-brown with distinct grey transversal bands on flanks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in western Africa, from Guinea to Ghana and from Nigeria to most of Cameroon and Gabon, south to DR Congo. Found in loose soil areas in rainforests, plantations, rice fields and villages, in lowlands.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a large range and can tolerate some degree of habitat modifications. Nonetheless, it seems to be slowly declining.
