Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 28 cm, usually smaller. Wide and flat head with very small eyes. Violet feather-like external gills. Coloration is olive-green becoming greyer with faint dark spots towards tail. Large tail fin.

Range and habitat
The species lives in central America and is endemic to Mexico, being only found in the Lake Patzcuaro, in north-west Michoacan. Lives in freshwater lake, at 1920 m above sea level.

IUCN RED LIST : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has a very small range and this range is under continuous threat from pollution and other humane activities.
