Identification
The biggest frog species of Europe, reaching a length up to 13 cm. Eyes are placed well above the head, snout slightly pointed. Back is olive-brown, yellowish, rarely green with numerous brown blotches. Dorso-lateral folds well visible.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in Europe and western Asia, from France and Great Britain to Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and eastwards to Kazakhstan. Found in all kinds of open well-warmed areas with water nearby, up to 2500 m.
