Identification
The species can grow up to 8 cm in length. Wide body with small head. Skin usually smooth. Coloration generally brown with two wide longitudinal orange bands running on flanks, with broad black edges. Belly greyish-white.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in south and south-east Asia, from India and Bangladesh to south China, south to Malaysia and western Indonesia. Lives in wetlands, forest edges, agricultural areas, canals in urban areas.

Status : The species has a very large range and is adaptable, often being found in cities and villages. Introduced in a few countries and considered invasive.
