Identification
Very large toad species, reaching up to 25 cm in length but generally less. Rough warty skin, bony ridges near snout and eyes. Short legs and stout body. Dark brown back with more or less yellow spotting. Belly yellow with black spots.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, from the Atlantic coast of Brazil to Paraguay, Uruguay, east Bolivia and northern Argentina. Lives in open forests, cerrado, chaco, woodlands, urban gardens, up to 2000 m.

Status : The species remains common within its range. Its true status is unknown because of taxonomic work likely to lump the species with others.
