Identification
Fairly big species, reaching a length of 12 cm, females being bigger than males. Very warty skin. Coloration usually brown (with yellow or gray tinge) with small black dots on flanks and back. Prominent cranial crest visible between eyes.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in most of central and central western areas of USA and nearby northwest Mexico. Lives in grasslands, shrublands, open woodlands and deserts.

Status : This species has a large range and occurs in several protected areas in USA. Locally abundant to the point of displacing other toads from their range.
